We are hosting a two-night wedding event that will begin on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019 at 3PM and will end on Friday, May 24th, 2019 at 12PM.
The wedding will be hosted at Markree Castle with the exclusive use of castle and grounds including rose gardens, the river Unshin, a boathouse and woodland walks only for our guests during the entirety of the stay. Please see itinerary below:
Welcome Party on Wednesday, May 22nd
Guest Arrival to Markree Castle at 3PM - please verify your arrival time if you need transportation from the train station to the castle, and we will send out a taxi to pick you up.
Upon arrival, there will be donuts and water, sodas, and a welcome bag in your room. You may order a snack on us from the menu in your room for a late lunch.
Castle Tour at 4PM - please meet at the staircase hall.
Dinner served at 6:30PM - a relaxed buffet style dinner will be served with one alcoholic beverage of your choice at the dining room.
Wedding Ceremony, Reception, and After Party on Thursday, May 23rd
Breakfast served from 8AM to 10AM - you will be able to select from different menu options once seated in the dining room.
Lunch served at 12PM - there will be sandwiches available in the long hall for you to pick up if you get hungry.
Wedding Ceremony at 2PM - ceremony will take place at the chapel at Markree Castle. Certain events such as this are unplugged, which means no phones or cameras. We have a talented photographer and videographer that will be capturing all of these events.
Afternoon Tea served at 2:30PM - afternoon tea will include scones, biscuits with freshly brewed fair-trade tea and coffee, canapes, and sparkling wine and beer served on the patio area.
Sligo Falconry and Lawn Games from 3PM to 5PM - birds will be available for static displays and flying displays after the ceremony. A falconer will talk about the art of falconry and answer any questions for guests that would like to participate. FlipEvents will be there with an outdoor photo booth and lawn games like lawn bocce, kubb, and ultimate frisbee. Guests are welcome to come and go as they please.
Cocktail Hour at 5:15PM - cocktails will be served in the inner hall and long hall
Speech by Brian Lawn at 5:45PM - please make your way to the staircase hall, Iain and I will be making our entrance for the reception on the staircase, and Brian Lawn, father of the groom, will be making a toast. This event is unplugged, which means no cell phones or cameras.
Dinner at 6PM - dinner will include a four-course meal consisting of a starter, a main course with wine pairing, dessert buffet, tea coffee & petite fours, and a Prosecco toast served in the dining room.
Speeches by Florine Gaum and Hickory Gateless at 8:30PM - please gather around the dessert buffet for toasts by Florine Gaum, Matron of Honor, and Hickory Gateless, Best Man. This event is unplugged, which means no cell phones or cameras.
Cake Cutting at 8:45PM - please enjoy the dessert buffet after the cake cutting. Guests are welcome to enjoy the cigar bar and go outside to enjoy the sunset.
Floating Candle Ceremony and Group Photos at 9:15PM - we will be walking down the gardens to the river and participating in a ceremony based off a Thai festival called Loy Krathong. The Loy Krathong, or ‘the festival of light,’ is believed to have originated in the ancient city of Sukhothai, where Metaya’s family is from. The traditional festival beautifully embodies a new beginning. Each person attaches a prayer, memory, or wish to their candle, before releasing it to a nearby body of water. Afterwards, guests will gather for group photos with sparklers.
First Dance at 9:50PM - we will retire to the entertainment suite on the lower ground floor via the Unshin suite from the gardens. The ground floor contains a private bar, a cocktail bar, a large dance floor, a farmhouse style kitchen, a lounge bar, and its own courtyard for a celestial themed masquerade ball. This event is unplugged, which means no cell phones or cameras.
After Party at 10PM - Miles Graham and his band will perform a live show in the function room aka the dance floor. He will play some original music like "Let It Shine" as well as some covers. FlipEvents will set up a magic mirror and flower wall photo booth in the main reception space. Miles Graham will then DJ at 12:30AM for the rest of the night, and the party will continue until 4AM.
Late Night Food served at 11:30PM - Late night food with tea and coffee will be served in the kitchen.
Breakfast on Friday, May 24th
Breakfast served from 9:30AM to 11AM - Breakfast will be served the next morning in the dining room before room checkout. Biscuits with freshly brewed fair-trade tea and coffee will be available after breakfast in the long hall.
In order for guests to attend all events, we ask that all guests book their accommodations at Markree Castle. We have reserved all 30 rooms for our guests and will take care of the booking of the rooms. All you have to do is RSVP and show up. Guests will pay for their rooms directly with Markree Castle upon check out.
*All meals will be provided for you during your stay at no additional costs to you. Some alcohol will be provided to you at no additional cost during the welcome dinner, wedding reception, and after party, but any additional alcohol must be purchased.
